The Research Topic Monologue is an oral presentation. Using the research topic selected at the beginning of the year, the student will write and present a first-person monologue from the perspective of a person involved with the research topic. For example, a monologue of the Battle of Gettysburg could be performed from the perspective of a Union soldier, Confederate officer, or the wife of mother of a soldier in the Battle. The presenter may create a character or use a historical figure; the latter is preferred when possible. Topics in economics may be addressed using characters such as famous economists, company presidents, workers, business owners, or anyone with a significant tie to an industry or economic issue.
