Narvaez led the first known European exploration of Louisiana. The expedition was a disaster. Narvaez was swept out to sea during a storm and never seen again. The few survivors included Cabeza de Vaca and Esteban the Moor. They lived among the Native Americans for years before being found by another Spanish expedition. Their knowledge of the tribes and languages of the area was valuable to the Spanish. | ||||
